March 3 Registration Deadline for Women's Symposium
Monday, March 3 is the deadline to register for the second biennial Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women¹s Symposium. The conference for women will take place on Saturday, March 15 from
8am-4pm at Fulton Montgomery Community College. The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women¹s Consortium which is presenting the Symposium is providing scholarships to women who
would like to participate in the event, but for whom the cost is prohibitive. The scholarships are worth $25 each and will cover the cost of registration, continental breakfast, lunch and
complimentary day care for the Symposium.
A total of twelve scholarships will be awarded through local agencies. The YWCA, Domestic Violence, and FMCC¹s TRiO, BRIDGE and Project LIFT programs will each receive two
scholarships. In addition, the Johnstown and Gloversville Senior Citizen Centers will each receive one scholarship to present.
Scholarship donor categories include: Women in Education given by Kathleen Sullivan Assistant Superintendent of Schools, GJSD; Women in Medicine given by Edith H. Pryce, M.D.;
Women in Law given by Polly Hoye, Fulton County Judge; Women in Accounting given by Charleen Ellingwood, CPA; Women in Real Estate given by Virginia M. Mackey, Realtor;
Women In the Trades given by The Women of Jag Manufacturing; Women in Banking given by Dianna Maring, M&T Bank; Women in the Arts given by Ann Lee Clough; Women in
Nursing given by Patricia Galea, Nurse Practitioner; Women in Business given by Rebecca LaLonde, Beeskep of Johnstown; Women in Politics given by Sarah Slingerland, Mayor, City of
Johnstown and Women in the Community given by 5 community volunteers.
The focus areas of this year¹s Women¹s Symposium are history, health, spirituality and nature and how each can provide strength to women. Participants may register to attend three of
the twelve workshop choices. History-related workshops include: "Singing for Suffrage," presented by New York folksinger Peggy Lynn; "She Shall Rise: Religion, Radicalism, and
Elizabeth Cady Stanton," presented by Melinda Grube, descendant of Seneca Falls abolitionists; and "Sharing the History Inside Ourselves," presented by storyteller Marni Gillard.
Workshops dealing with health are: ³The History and Experience of Belly Dancing,² presented by certified trainer Laura Osborne; "Yoga for Today's Women," presented by instructor
Colleen Rasmussen; and "The Healing in Your Own Hands," presented by certified healing touch practitioner Sue Van Hook.
Spirituality-focused workshops include: "The Dance of Inner and Outer Harmony," presented by artist, author, researcher and energy worker Christine Prokopiak; "Music for Wholeness
and Healing," presented by certified music practitioner, Robin Gaiser; and "Dreaming Well: Using Dream Imagery in the Healing Process," presented by Wanda Burch, author of She Who
Dreams.
The workshops dealing with nature are: "Building a Strong Local Food System," presented by Cheryl Nechamen, coordinator of the 100 Mile Diet Challenge; "Our Bodies, Our
Environment: How Everyday Toxic Chemicals Affect Women's Health," presented by Bobbi Chase Wilding, organizing director of Clean New York; and ³Creating a Backyard Sanctuary:
Garden Spaces to Calm and Restore Us," presented by Crystal Stewart, Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Horticulturalist.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Evelyn F. Murphy will focus on the unfair and unequal treatment women experience in the workplace and provide women with the rationale and tools to achieve
more financial security . Murphy is the author of ³Getting Even: Why Women Don't Get Paid Like Men and What To Do About It".

The twelve workshops above will each be offered once during the two morning and one afternoon session of the Symposium. Participants may register to attend a total of three
workshops, one in each session. Pre-registration is required. The registration fee for the conference is $25 and includes continenial breakfast and lunch. Dr. Evelyn Murphy, author of

The next Symposium planning meeting will be held on Monday, February 11 at 4 pm in conference room N107 at FMCC. Copies of the registration brochure will be distributed to
ECSConsortium members. In addition, the draft of the program booklet will be reviewed. Those attending the meeting should come prepared with any suggested revisions.
This year¹s Women's Symposium is being organized by the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women's Consortium. The Consortium is composed of local women's groups including the AAUW,
BPW, Women Democrats, Republican Women¹s Club of Fulton Co, and the YWCA in tandem with FMCC. The organization supports women¹s education, history, culture, leadership

Vendors Needed for Women¹s Symposium
The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women¹s Symposium committee is seeking vendors for the all day event for women which is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2008, at
Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Booths will be set up in the Large Lounge of the Student Union Building.
The target audience for the conference is women age 20-70. Approximately 200 women are expected to attend. The Symposium committee is seeking an elite group of vendors with
unique products that specifically appeal to the needs of the target audience. A preference will be given to women-owned businesses.
Arts and crafters, health and beauty, fashion and accessories, home and garden, and food vendors are invited. In addition, service agencies including not-for-profit organizations are
welcome to participate in the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women's Symposium. A fee will entitle the vendor to a 6 ft. table space 6x30 that includes a chair, nametag and table signage as well
an advertisement space in the Symposium program. ( Fees are based on ad size in the program and vary from $25 to $130)
The vendor committee will award spaces in December. Notification to accepted vendors will occur by January 15. Interested vendors should submit a letter of interest to Ellie Fosmire

ECS Women¹s Symposium Keynote Speaker Announced
Dr. Evelyn Murphy has been chosen as the keynote speaker for the Second biennial Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women's Symposium. Murphy is the President of The WAGE Project, Inc., a
national organization to end wage discrimination against working women. As a Resident Scholar in the Women's Studies Research Center at Brandeis University, she researched and
authored a book on women's wages entitled "Getting Even: Why Women Don't Get Paid Like Men and What To Do About It" . In addition, she has served as the Lt Governor of
Massachusetts. Murphy participated in the Public Policy Forum at the AAUW NYS Convention in Saratoga last April.
The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women's Symposium is an all day conference for women which is being organized by the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women¹s Consortium. It will be held at
FMCC on Saturday, March 15, 2008. The event will include workshops and speakers of interest to women 20-70. Vendors will also be on hand and breakfast and lunch will be served.
The first Women¹s Symposium was held in March 2006.
The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women's Consortium headed by Helen Martin will meet on Monday December 3 at 4 pm in conference room N107 at FMCC. The Women¹s Symposium
planning committee under the direction of Laurie Freeman will begin at 5 pm immediately following the Consortium meeting. The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women's Consortium
includes local women's groups such as AAUW, BPW, Women Democrats, Republican Women¹s Club of Fulton Co, Soroptimists and YWCA in tandem with FMCC. The organization
supports women¹s education, history, culture, leadership and equity.

NBT Bank Funds Women's Symposium
The NBT Bank recently presented a check for $2000 to the Elizabeth Cady
Stanton Women¹s Consortium to underwrite the second Elizabeth Cady
Stanton Women¹s Symposium.
A limited number of spaces are still available for the conference for women
which will take place on Saturday, March 15 from 8am-4:00 pm at the
Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The event will feature 12 workshops
focusing on issues important to women including history, health, spirituality and
nature and how each can provide strength to women . Dr. Evelyn Murphy,
author of "Getting Even: Why Women Don¹t Get Paid Like Men and What To
Do About It" will be the keynote speaker. In addition, an elite group of vendors
with unique products and services that specifically appeal to the needs of the
target audience will provide displays that day.
Those attending the Symposium will also have an opportunity to visit the Perrella
Art Gallery at FMCC to see the final day of the exhibit Botanica Magnificia, a
collection of dramatic large scale prints of rare and endangered flowering plants
produced by Artist Dr. Jonathan Singer.
Day care underwritten by the Business and Professional Women (BPW) of
Fulton, Montgomery and Hamilton Counties will be available for up to 20
youngsters 18 months to 10 years of age at the Fulton County YMCA
Playmates Child Care Center housed at FMCC. Lunch and snacks will also be
provided to the children compliments of the BPW.
There is a $25 registration fee for the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women¹s
Symposium which includes a continental breakfast, deli style lunch and the
complimentary day care.
Preregistration is required to attend the event. Registration brochures are
available in Gloversville at the YWCA, Library, Senior Center and the Fulton
County Chamber of Commerce as well as at the Johnstown and Amsterdam
Libraries and Senior Centers and the FMCC library as wells as from the
website agjaauw.org/ECSsymposium.html. The form may be printed out and
sent in with a $25 check made out to ECSWC. Payment must accompany the

The final Symposium organizational meeting will be held on Monday,
